“Inclusion means every person is a valued member in the community of their choice.”
Kathryn (Kat) joined KIT in 2015 as an Education and Training Specialist. Since then, KIT has provided the opportunity for Kat to share her passion for inclusion around the globe through disability inclusion training, consultation, conference workshops and keynotes in places as far flung as South Korea, Bavaria, England, Japan, and Canada. In her current role as Partnerships Director of Inclusive Communities, Kat enjoys embedding herself with national organizations to develop the perfect approach to establish and sustain inclusive practice systems change. She blends strategic planning, training, and policy development to create environments, programs and systems in which all youth thrive.
Prior to KIT, her professional experience included over 25 years of youth development experience in a variety of settings including directing and / or supporting inclusive preschool, summer camp, after school, and teen programs and teaching courses as an adjunct faculty member at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her educational journey includes a BS from Virginia Tech in Communications and Marketing and an MS in Recreation Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her articles and research have been published in Camping Magazine, Journal of Park and Recreation Administration, and Discovery Magazine. Kat’s motto: live with intention, have integrity, and be a catalyst for positive change.
