Unified Theater
As of July 1st, 2018, Unified Theater has become a part of Kids Included Together! Unified Theater is thrilled to be joining this dynamic organization that is equally committed to making schools and communities more inclusive of kids of all abilities. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, Unified Theater programs will be managed by KIT. For existing programs, very little will change at your school except that Unified Theater programs will get to take advantage of KIT’s vast catalog of inclusion & disability professional development online learning while still having access to all of the Unified Theater curriculum and resources you are used to.
We are excited to join KIT and to continue putting the Spotlight on Ability!
What is Unified Theater?
Unified Theater dissolves typical barriers between youth through transformative, school-based performing arts programming. In Unified Theater, young people with and without disabilities, of all backgrounds, come together as equals to put on a production. The production is entirely organized, written, and directed by the students themselves. The concept is simple: empower youth to lead, let creativity rule, and put the Spotlight on Ability.
We are excited to be able to offer Unified Theater as an open-source program starting in 2020. That means any school or organization that wants to start a Unified Theater program is welcome to download the curriculum and support materials and start making your community more inclusive! All the downloadable resources are available here. This is all you need to get started.
But if you'd like more information or need some help as you get going, please contact us at unifiedtheater@kit.org.
