Unified Theater & FIRST
Friday Greetings!
As we head toward the end of the KIT fiscal year (June 30) we do a lot of counting – # of trainings, # of people trained, # of support calls, etc. It is fun to tally it all up and see how many people we have reached this year and then multiply that by all the kids and families our learners serve. Just this week KIT trainers have been in Michigan, Louisiana, Florida, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Japan & England!
It was my pleasure to spend a few days in Florida helping the global organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) kick-off their diversity, equity & inclusion initiative at their annual Community Conference. FIRST is a world-class STEM organization that serves over 500K children and youth on 59K teams in 86 countries. There are 250K adult mentor, coach, judge and volunteer roles.
We want to be sure that kids of all abilities have access to all kinds of activities- science & technology, sports, and the arts, among others. This week we are excited to announce that Unified Theater, a progressive nonprofit providing student-led, inclusive theater arts programs, will join KIT as of July 1st. We will make the Unified Theater program available through our online learning center, and the 50 schools that Unified currently serves will join our network in the next school year. We will share more information as things develop, but for now, please join us in our excitement for helping Unified Theater “Put the Spotlight on Ability” in even more places!
More exciting announcements to follow as we have big plans for our new KIT year beginning July 1!
Warmly,
Torrie
