As of July 1, Unified Theater has become a part of KIT and we could not be more thrilled to be joining this dynamic organization that is equally committed to making schools and communities more inclusive of kids of all abilities.
If you’re not familiar with Unified Theater, you may be wondering what we’re all about. Unified Theater dissolves typical barriers between youth through transformative, school-based performing arts programming. In Unified Theater, young people with and without disabilities, of all backgrounds, come together as equals to put on a production. The production is entirely organized, written, and directed by the students themselves.
The concept is simple:
- Empower youth to lead
- Let creativity rule
- Put the Spotlight on Ability

By joining KIT, UT schools will have access to all of KIT’s amazing inclusion resources and their network of schools and community organizations in 41 states and 11 countries. And Unified Theater will be able to add inclusive, performing arts curriculum and resources to supplement KIT’s existing catalog along with our network of inclusive-minded schools already implementing Unified Theater.
A perfectly inclusive match, if you ask us!
Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, Unified Theater programs will be managed by KIT. The programs will continue to be student-led and student-written, and we will continue to always shine the Spotlight on Ability with a fully inclusive cast and crew.
We hope that you will join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter for KIT and Unified Theater! If you have any questions or if you are interested in starting a Unified Theater program at your school or community organization, please contact unifiedtheater@kit.org.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
I am a new advisor for Berlin High School’s Unified Theater program. I am confused as to what I need to do to get our school started – do I purchase a KIT program?. Last year a training was made available specifically for Unified Theater in West Hartford- is that still available or should I be looking at the online trainings???? Please advise me as to what I need to do as a new advisor. Thanks
